Let’s get something straight: I approve of the bile and hatred directed towards Chris Brown for what he did to Rihanna. It was horrific and disgusting, but let’s not mess around here- one of the reasons he’s held far more accountable for what he did than many others is his race. I believe every abuser and rapist should be treated with the same vitriol as he is, regardless of their race, class, gender, etc. privileges.
So let’s have a look at who else we should be furious about attending award ceremonies and being on TV and being publicly lauded, hmmm?
Tommy Lee Nicolas Cage Ike Turner Charlie Sheen Julian Assange John Lennon Sean Bean Paul Gasgoigne Johnny Carson Woody Allen Bill Murray Sean Penn Michael Fassbender Roman Polanski Mel Gibson Josh Brolin Christian Bale Ringo Starr Chris Benoit Gary Busey Christian Slater Nick Carter Axl Rose Gary Coleman Steven Tyler David Copperfield R Kelly Gary Glitter Jerry Lee Lewis Evel Kneivel Bill Cosby Sean Connery Jeff Gillooly James Brown Rick James Jason Kidd Kobe Bryant Riddick Bowe Mike TysonNow, to be fair, a lot of these people’s abuse is well acknowleged and reported, but I think it’s important to be constantly reminded how many abusers there are in the public arena, and these are just the ones we know about. Why so many sportsmen? What is it about sports culture that encourages smacking your wife or raping a fan? Is it the competitive drive or what? That’s definitely something that needs to be addressed.
Here’s the thing though….Everyone else let us forget it….chris wont, especially with all the rambunctious outbursts and no signs of changing in character.
